November Nuggets
Within the next few weeks, I’ll be ramping up for the 2026 filing season (2025 returns).
You’ll see emails from me to sign engagement letters, then once you sign, the new system is supposed to start prompting you for questionnaire answers and documents.
I made a video about the tax questionnaire and documents here.
You absolutely do NOT have to do these things electronically, but please let me know if you prefer a paper copy of the engagement letter. If you sign the engagement letter electronically, there will be places to tell me on the letter that you would like a paper organizer, paper copy of the completed tax return, etc.
If you don’t see an email from me within the next month (I’m going to try to get them out before Christmas), please check the spam folders of your email and whitelist the sender (you can google on how to do that for your particular email provider) so that notifications from MyFirm360 and RightSignature get through to you.
Only one person in a married couple filing jointly needs to sign for an engagement letter, so if you don’t see anything, check with your spouse to see if they got it. Note: If you are signing for a joint return, please put the joint name in the Name field on the letter. For instance, I would sign for my personal letter, but in the Name field, I would put Bas & Wendy Wray, not just Wendy Wray.
Of course, you won’t have any documents just yet. As far as I know, 1/31/26 is still the deadline to have informational documents out (so W2’s, 1099s, 1098s, etc.). If that falls on a weekend, it would be the following Monday. Then there’s mailing time. Just know that when things start coming in, you can either collect and mail to me or upload through the portal.
This year’s portal should provide you with a list of everything you had last year, but you may have new things. That’s 100% perfectly okay. Just upload what you have when you get it.
There is still time for tax planning conversations if we haven’t done that and you’d like to. Time is getting short as you would need time to implement any ideas we come up with for you, but I do still have some availability.
